Ken Willard asked me to build a prototype of a racing sailplane he designed on a napkin with dozens of recalculated dimensions.

I set out framing things in, hot wiring foam cores and gluing things together. We would spend hours hashing out the design. He was VERY picky about the airfoil, it had to be "just so".

Based on it's design features, Black Beauty was awarded the International Design Award at the 1984 International Slope races.
