Model Aviation Revision

Model Aviation Redesign Blog

The Model Aviation team is working hard behind the scenes to roll out a newly redesigned issue of Model Aviation beginning with the March 2012 issue. Although a redesign does not necessarily mean a complete overhaul or relaunch, readers will notice some very prominent changes. Of course Model Aviation will continue to offer favorite features along with new elements, now presented in newer and exciting ways. Although the redesign has already been months in the making, we want to invite you to join us on our journey. With this blog you can follow the redesign process and share your thoughts along the way.

Scott Stoops Joins Model Aviation

Look for a bimonthly column and product reviews by Scott in future issues of MA! A lifetime in aviation would be an accurate description of Scott Stoops’ involvement in both the RC modeling world and full-scale aviation. He grew up in an aviation family and his father was an airline pilot.

Thank you for filling out this brief survey. Your comments will guide the AMA to continue making Model Aviation an industry leading publication.

Promoting the Redesign

posted by Model Aviation Staff January 23, 2012 As we approach the redesign, an increased promotional effort is underway. In addition to a strong presence at the AMA Expo and ads in our publications, the redesign was recently featured in the RC Pilot magazine app. Inside the February issue of RC Pilot we shared the principles behind the redesign as well as screen shots of the March issue.

Evaluating the Layout

posted by Model Aviation Staff November 9, 2011 In our recent meeting we completely reevaluated how we should layout and categorize the AMA content and news we publish each month. We'll continue to include favorite sections such as "In The Air" and "AMA News," but you'll find those sections may have a slightly different look and include expanded content.

Cover Selection

posted by Model Aviation Staff November 2, 2011 We are much closer to finalizing a cover design! We have narrowed the revised Model Aviation logo down to just a few options. We are also holding steadfast to the mission that we want to keep our cover clean and clutter-free. We are on the verge of finalizing a great approach that keeps our covers uncluttered yet is able to promote even more features.

Keeping Tabs

posted by Model Aviation Staff October 19, 2011 One of Model Aviation's greatest strengths is our commitment to cover all aspects of aviation as well as AMA and industry news. We have developed a system in our redesign that will introduce a color coded system in the back of the magazine to help you find information more easily.

Colored Paper

posted by Model Aviation Staff October 12, 2011 We hear you loud and clear! Our members frequently asking us to introduce color to the back of the magazine. We worked with our printers and designers and are excited to announce that the entire magazine from front to back will now be in full color. We invite you to share your thoughts in the comment section.

Fonts get a Facelift

posted by Model Aviation Staff September 26, 2011 We carefully spent days pour over typefaces and font styles for the redesign of the new Model Aviation magazine. Often we hear that the type is too small or too condensed. So we looked at dozens of cleaner, larger fonts. The redesigned issue will now include a slightly larger font that we believe will be easier to read.
