Model Aviation Redesign Blog

The Model Aviation team is working hard behind the scenes to roll out a newly redesigned issue of Model Aviation beginning with the March 2012 issue. Although a redesign does not necessarily mean a complete overhaul or relaunch, readers will notice some very prominent changes. Of course Model Aviation will continue to offer favorite features along with new elements, now presented in newer and exciting ways.

Although the redesign has already been months in the making, we want to invite you to join us on our journey. With this blog you can follow the redesign process and share your thoughts along the way.

We just wrapped the February issue of Model Aviation and are hard at work on the March issue. Features will include event coverage of the Biggest Little Airshow, reviews including the Super Stearman, and tutorials on avoiding washout.

Within the first couple pages, readers will notice a completely overhauled the table of contents. Large, clean graphics anchor the table of contents as neatly organized and coded features make the magazine easier to navigate.

As Model Aviation continues to expand its digital presence, the magazine will more frequently share with readers where to find expanded content online to supplement the story. Changes to ModelAviation.com will reflect the redesign as the website continues to offer content supplementing each issue of the magazine. And later this year the magazine online presence will expand its archives and introduce digital issues.

Evaluating the Layout

In our recent meeting we completely reevaluated how we should layout and categorize the AMA content and news we publish each month. We'll continue to include favorite sections such as "In The Air" and "AMA News," but you'll find those sections may have a slightly different look and include expanded content.

We invite you to share your thoughts as we redesign your Model Aviation magazine.

Cover Selection

November 2, 2011

We are much closer to finalizing a cover design! We have narrowed the revised Model Aviation logo down to just a few options. We are also holding steadfast to the mission that we want to keep our cover clean and clutter-free. We are on the verge of finalizing a great approach that keeps our covers uncluttered yet is able to promote even more features.

Share your thoughts about what you would like to see on the cover of the redesigned Model Aviation.
