Jumbo Fly-In 2013

Written by Mark Johnston and Bill Holland. Video coverage of this 27th annual event. As covered on page 145 in the August 2013 issue of Model Aviation and the app.

As I, Mark Johnston, wrote this, Oklahoma was hit with yet another set of tornados and bad weather. Brian Regan, Howard Chapman, and I planned to go to the Jumbo Fun-Fly in Guthrie, Oklahoma, for the weekend of June 1. I got a call from Bill Holland saying they were expecting bad weather and convinced me to call off the trip. I’m glad I listened to Bill! Bill Holland provided the following report about the event: The Oklahoma Sooner Squadron hosted its 27th Annual Jumbo Fun-Fly. This year we had to cancel Saturday’s activities following a horrible day of thunderstorms, violent tornados, and flooding. The club parking lot was more suited for RC boat racing. Sunday, however, was a beautiful day and 25 pilots came out for a day of flying and fellowship. Many others were home taking care of storm damage, waiting for power to be restored, or were unable to travel due to high water. Our thoughts are with those who were confronted by devastating natural disaster. The AMA is here to help those who need assistance - http://www.modelaircraft.org/files/714.pdf
