Mastering Takeoffs
The throttle is smoothly advanced to full power at the start of the takeoff roll while holding slight up-elevator. As the aircraft accelerates, the pilot reacts to any course deviations using the rudder. After the airplane leaves the ground, the elevator input is lessened and the focus switches to keeping the wings level during the climbout.
Although this description isn’t as exciting as the real thing, the pilot needs to be comfortable with the process. You don’t have to be a veteran flier to take off like one when you understand the mechanics involved. To learn how to master the takeoff, click here
