If you are unfamiliar with Drone Soccer, the U.S. Drone Soccer Association organizes the sport as the recognized Special Interest Group (SIG) for FAI (fai.org) F9A Drone Soccer competition through AMA. This SIG organizes and promotes competitions and events around the US and the world.
The following report comes from Tom Neff, who coaches Drone Soccer teams that are sponsored by the Wings Over the Rockies Museum (WOTRM) in Denver, Colorado. Tom and WOTRM organized the District IX Drone Soccer Tournament last February.
The Wings Predators Drone Soccer program has become a true Colorado STEM sports success story. In the 2026 season, both the varsity and junior varsity squads delivered standout performances that showcased WOTRM’s commitment to aviation education, innovation, and competitive excellence.
The varsity Predators squad completed a flawless, undefeated season—an achievement that turned heads across District IX. Their precision flying, tactical discipline, and relentless offensive pressure carried them all the way to the District IX championship title. Every match felt like a mission that was executed with military-grade focus.
The junior varsity Predators proved that the museum’s developmental pipeline is just as strong. With determination and rapidly improving skill, the junior varsity squad battled its way to a second-place finish in the district. For many junior varsity pilots, this was their first year to compete, and they rose to the challenge with the heart of seasoned competitors.
With both teams finishing at the top of District IX, the Wings Predators are now preparing for the U.S. National Drone Soccer Championships in Daytona Beach, Florida. The excitement is building across the WOTRM community as the teams gear up for the national stage.
As the team leader, I expect excellence and to push these young competitors beyond their limits. Besides the flying, we also must master formations and strategy for both offense and defense. These young people are more than a competitive team; they’re an extension of the museum’s mission to inspire the next generation of aviators, engineers, and innovators. Through teamwork, STEM learning, and the thrill of flight, the program continues to elevate what drone sports can be.
