As I continue visiting clubs throughout AMA District X, I have had the privilege of seeing many outstanding flying sites and events. Every once in a while, however, I visit a club that leaves a lasting impression—not because of the airplanes but because of the people. That was exactly my experience at Warbirds Over Livermore 2026 in Livermore, California, which was hosted by the Livermore Flying Electrons.

From the moment that I arrived, the parking lot was full, the flightline was packed with more than 100 warbirds, and 40-plus pilots had gathered to enjoy a weekend of flying. The aircraft were spectacular, ranging from foam warbirds to Giant Scale gas models, EDFs, and turbine jets. The club’s 600- × 40-foot asphalt runway, along with its adjacent AstroTurf, provided an outstanding flying facility.

What impressed me the most, though, wasn’t the runway or the airplanes; it was the atmosphere. During my visit, Ed Becker shared something that perfectly described this event. Their goal wasn’t simply to host another warbird fly-in—it was to make sure that everyonefelt welcome.

Whether you were flying your very first foam warbird or a beautifully detailed Giant Scale model, you were treated with the same respect and given the opportunity to fly. That philosophy was easy to see throughout the day. Pilots were patient with one another, eager to answer questions, and genuinely interested in helping newer modelers become a part of the hobby.

That same spirit carries over into the club’s year-round activities. The Livermore Flying Electrons actively invest in the future of model aviation through the AMA STEM program, flight simulators, and dedicated training aircraft that help introduce young people to flying.

I also want to recognize Ed for personally inviting me to attend. Just as importantly, I want to thank Ed’s wife, Andrea, whose hard work behind the scenes helped make this event a success. Like so many volunteers, her efforts are a reminder that great events are built by people who generously give their time. Joining me for the visit were District X Associate Vice Presidents John Johnson and David Bettencourt, who also had the opportunity to experience the outstanding hospitality shown by the club.

Warbirds Over Livermore has now celebrated its 15th year, and after spending time with its members, it’s easy to understand why it continues to be successful. It’s more than a warbird event—it’s a gathering built on courtesy, mentorship, and a genuine desire to give back to the model aviation community.

Safe flyingand safe landings!
