On June 6, 2020, the Lake Ozark Radio Control Society in Missouri had its annual Relay for Life Cancer Fun Fly. We had 31 pilots and raised more than $4,445 for the American Cancer Society. The Relay Ladies put on a great lunch for all the attendees.

We are located in the middle of the state but had pilots from St. Louis, Kansas City, Warnsburg, and Clinton, Missouri, make the long drive to attend this event.

Each year we have a raffle with items donated by the club and in the last few years, this raffle has grown because of donations from the pilots who traveled to the event from afar. I can’t say how impressed I am with the quality and generosity of the people in this great hobby! Thank you to all of the pilots and their friends and families who attended this successful event.

Next this month is from Tom DeVincentis.

On June 26-27, the Mid-Missouri Radio Control Association (MMRCA) hosted the annual Show-Me Warbird Invitational, a charity event for the Central Missouri Honor Flight (https://centralmissourihonorflight.com). Central Missouri Honor Flight is an organization whose mission is to transport America’s veterans to Washington, D.C., to visit the memorials dedicated to honor their service and sacrifices.

The event attracted 29 pilots, with long-distance travelers from as far as San Antonio and Wisconsin. As pilots showed up Friday afternoon, the flying of some truly impressive models started.

Friday was clear, but hot and humid, with mild wind. Saturday started with a gentle rain until about 11 a.m. After the rain cleared, the weather, although cloudy, turned mild.

The event included warbirds from all eras as well as classic aircraft. The gathering raised $1,730 for the Central Missouri Honor Flight. MMRCA thanks everyone who attended and helped make this a fun event. More importantly, MMRCA thanks all of those who supported this charity that helps veterans in our community.

The last article is from Mike Morton.

The Henderson Radio Control Model Airplane Club, in Henderson, Kentucky, is thankful to have received a 2020 Take off And Grow (TAG) grant. Unfortunately, COVID-19 issues hampered the club’s activities for this year. As an alternative to the original planned events, we will work a TAG program into our scheduled September 10-12, 2020, Fall Fly-In.

mona and mike hillenbrand

Mona and Mike Hillenbrand got involved with the club and soon began working with a couple of trainer pilots on days when the weather was tolerable. They soon purchased their own equipment and worked with Tina Zieman and Mike Morton to get in lots of flights.

Remember, to see your club in the magazine, email me a submission to [email protected] with the word "magazine" in the subject line. I promise to include them all in the magazine! I’ll end by asking you to introduce someone to model aviation, whether it is on a buddy box or on your simulator!
