RC Geek Meets Hoot Gibson

The RC Geek (aka Chris Wolfe; www.facebook.com/thercgeek) met with astronaut Robert “Hoot” Gibson at Cane Ridge RC park in Nashville, Tennessee, to fly in December 2021. Hoot brought his scratch-built XFY Pogo that he designed. Here are some comments about Chris’ post that was shared on the AMA’s I Fly AMA Facebook page:

Scott Settle: Awesome Chris. I’ve met Hoot several times at Space Camp with my girls. He is a great guy. I’m from Huntsville … my dad worked for NASA for 58 years and is a docent at the Space Center!

Edward Waldrep: Awesome! I just saw a pic of that airplane yesterday ... or maybe it was the other one from the same era, and wondered if anyone had tackled it as a model. I remember Col. Thacker’s X-13 Vertijet from the early 90s, I don’t know if he ever flew it in VTOL mode.

Glenn Michael: I had the honor of being one of Hoot’s coworkers at SWA, and often had the opportunity to hang out with him in the crew lounge when we were both junior captains. He was sitting reserve and I was reporting for my Friday to Monday trips. We’d typically discuss RC stuff and I’d occasionally forget that I was actually talking to Hoot frigging Gibson! A true gentleman.
