Wings For Wishes

by Eric Kendall Polson MT Last February, my family was impacted by a dear friend's child, Dylan, who has a liver condition known as BA. He was selected by the Make-A-Wish foundation to have a wish granted. Dylan was asked, "If there was anything in the world you would like to do, what would it be?" Dylan, age six, replied "I want to play in the snow." Make-A-Wish stepped up and granted that wish. They sent Dylan, Mom, and Dad to a northern California resort where they got the presidential treatment. Dylan had the time of his life. While there he learned how to snow ski, snowboard, ice skate, and just play in the snow. After my wife, Kim, shared this story with me, it really hit close to home because I have three children of my own (future modelers). I wanted to help the Make-A-Wish Foundation in what it does. The organization isn’t out to find the cure to cancer or anything like that; its mission is to give terminally ill children one last smile, a positive memory, if you will. After some thought, I decided I would hold a fun-fly to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation, so I went to work. I started hunting sponsors from coast to coast, and got a few big names onboard such as Paul Jr. Designs that donated autographed posters and Balsa USA that donated a Sopwith Pup kit. On August 6, 2011, the first annual Wings For Wishes was held in Polson, Montana, with 23 registered pilots and well beyond 75 guests who came to watch the fun-flying action. That one day we made more than $1,000 to send to Montana’s Make-A-Wish Foundation. The event was a true success. With that in mind, I have started planning the next one to be held August 18, 2012. We have a public Facebook page located at www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Wings-For-Wishes/207231759300951 Feel free to check it out and let me know what you think.

We will be holding Wings For Wishes for 2 days this year. August 18-19.

Have heard this mentioned on The Crash Cast a couple of times and was thinking I'd attend this year (I'm in Billings). Alas, I have a prior commitment this summer. Next year (2015), I'll likely be there. This is good work for a really good cause.
