AN AIRCRAFT STAND that allows for easy assembly/disassembly and maintenance of our models, and can possibly even offer storage, is a worthwhile investment. A stand can often allow a single person to manage everything associated with getting an aircraft ready to fly.

My favorite type of airplane stand is one that is adjustable and can be used with models of varying sizes and configurations. An added bonus is a stand that can also be taken to the flying field and keeps you from having to kneel and work on the ground.

RC Plane Stands offers adjustable aircraft cradles. After you have decided between a benchtop or floor model, you can also decide if you want additional accessories, such as a tool tray or wing rack.

The Classic II Floor Model is the top-selling stand of all of the models that RC Plane Stands currently offers. It provides a lot of flexibility for varying sizes of aircraft. The stand is constructed of beautiful Baltic birch plywood and includes quality hardware.

The Classic II Floor Model stand is recommended for aircraft in the 10cc to 120cc range. It has fully adjustable angles and heights. The adjustable arms and slings conform to different fuselage widths and shapes. Padding of the arms that come into contact with our models is key, and the Classic II uses a Velcro one-wrap strap that connects to the arms, which have mating Velcro on them.

The optional wing rack is fully adjustable and is able to be attached or removed without tools. A Velcro one-wrap strap connects to the arms that have mating Velcro over them to provide the padding.

If you adjust the arms to their widest point then cut the Velcro, you can roll the excess and let it hang over the side when using the cradle for a smaller fuselage.

The stand is well packaged inside of the shipping box and includes all of the hardware in plastic bags. If you select any additional accessories, the hardware for those items is clearly marked.

A printed, 10-page assembly manual is included. If you prefer to see the stand assembled on video, Glen at RC Plane Stands has you covered with several product videos on the company’s website and on YouTube.

I read the manual once and watched a video. I found the stand easy to assemble. It uses several carriage bolts, and the knobs and handles that connect to them should be tightened enough the first time to seat the carriage bolts so that they don’t spin later when you adjust the stand.

The only tool not included to assemble the stand is a 9/16-inch socket or wrench I built the entire stand on a table, and the whole thing quickly and easily went together. If you opt for the wheels, they are nice, 3-inch swivel casters that also include a locking lever so that you can keep the stand from rolling when it’s needed.

laser engraving is an option

Laser engraving is an option, so the author had his name and AMA number engraved on the stand.

You can have up to two lines of text engraved on both sides of the stand. If you opt for the wheels, they are nice 3-inch swivel casters that also include a locking lever so you can keep the stand from rolling.

I had my name and AMA number laser-engraved on the stand, which included the wheels, tool tray, and wing rack with it. Another nice feature of the tool tray is that it offers a transmitter hook to which you can attach your radio. The tool tray can be configured to attach to either side of the rack and can extend to the outside or inside of the rack.

The wing rack is fully adjustable for the width of different wings and attaches to the stand without requiring any fasteners, so it can be added or removed in seconds.

Everything that is adjustable on the stand uses either knobs or handles, making any adjustments easy on your hands and tool-free.

The Classic II Floor Model is manufactured in California. The company is easy to reach by phone or email. The Baltic birch used on the stand is the nicest wood I’ve ever used on airplane stands that I have owned.

Although the initial investment might be more than some of the other readily available stands, the quality of the wood and hardware, combined with the level of flexibility and adjustments, should make this the only stand you will need for your modeling.
