As seen in the February 2024 issue of Model Aviation.

The Dare County RC Flyers sent in this Take off And Grow (TAG) report. The club did a great job representing model aviation, AMA, and the club to the community. Jim Davis, president of the Dare County RC Flyers, wrote the following:

"Our club, the Dare County RC Flyers, had a successful TAG event on October 7, 2023. It was so successful that we thought you might want to highlight us in the District IV column of Model Aviation. The reason I say this is because we have finally cracked the bubble on how to gain new club members, as well as AMA memberships. Our club of 21 members has raised our roles to 35 members after our TAG event—that’s 14 new members who signed up! We are thrilled to say the least.

"Assuming that you would like to know how we did this, here we go.

"Our club vice president, Robert Yanacek, deserves most of the credit for pulling this off, and our whole club worked as a team to make this an awesome event.

"Robert is very good at writing and using computers. He designed our fabulous club website (www.dcrcf.club). Robert worked very hard to get the word out. He sent notices to many different social media sites, including Facebook, Instagram, and others.

"Robert applied for, and we received, an AMA TAG grant, which we used to plan the event with food, great prizes (three airplane packages, each with a one-year AMA membership), and other things to make it fun.

"In order to qualify for one of the airplane prizes, you had to first fly with one of our instructor pilots. Pilots were then given a raffle ticket to be drawn at the end of the day. The raffle ticket recipient also had to agree that if they won a prize airplane package, they would join our club. Please see the ‘end of the event action report,’ sent in as requested by AMA. This report is super detailed and full of information and can be seen in Jay Marsh’s District IV report on page 112.

"We really wanted to bring this to your attention in case you thought it was worthy of extra consideration. Also, does AMA have any type of honorary award for someone who goes the extra mile? Robert Yanacek is worthy of such an honor."

TAG Event After-Action Report

Robert submitted a well-written report of the results of the Dare County RC Flyers’ event to AMA. The report could be used as a template to aid other clubs in organizing their events and reporting on the results.

As a result of the event, the club has gained 14 new members and the event produced $707.94 in revenue. There were $400 in new member dues, $180 from the raffle, a $75 award grant, and $52.94 TAG surplus. A $25 AMA reward for follow-up media coverage is in process.
