Extreme Glare Sunglasses

New Products That Are Worth a Closer Look As seen in the August 2024 issue of Model Aviation. KYLE JARACZ shared his review of the Zurich Extreme Glare Sunglasses. Here is what he had to say: As one who stares into the sky while flying model aircraft on a somewhat regular basis, sunglasses become pretty important! Even when the sky is a bit overcast or partially cloudy, having the right protection can determine how many pieces your aircraft comes back home in. You also need to ensure that your vision is protected for many more years of flying.

I was pleased to test out two pairs of sunglasses that have been created with an eye toward the needs of pilots. I tested the Serengeti Corning Glass lenses and the Eliminator lenses for this review. They are both non-polarized lenses that provide protection in two different ways. In my experience, the Eliminator lenses provided great protection while flying on sunny days, while the Corning Glass lenses did a great job on partly—and even mostly—cloudy days. The added depth perception of the Corning lenses helped me to identify greater detail in shadows and seemed to add a bit of color vibrancy to what I was seeing. I liked the transition lenses that automatically darkened as additional sunlight became a factor.

The author tests the Zurich sunglasses while paramotoring These are definitely premium eyewear, and the associated case and cleaning cloth will provide protection to your investment for many years. I did notice that the glasses didn’t quite fit my face. They seemed slightly small; however, I’m guessing you weren’t born with my features (and you should be very pleased by that!) so they’ll likely look great on you. A coworker of mine tried them on and they fit him well!

Ashton Lewis, in a pair of Zurich Extreme Glare Sunglasses, tracks his model on a cloudy day. I appreciated that both pairs enabled me to easily glance at my phone screen while flying my paramotor, and I really liked the added vibrancy that the Corning Glass lenses provided because I’m always on the lookout for air traffic, weather issues, and, as I get lower in altitude, wires, fences, etc. This could be equally important if you glance at your transmitter during flight to identify any pertinent information on your display. These non-polarized lenses will quickly help you gather any data that you might need. I don’t think you’ll be dissatisfied with these sunglasses if you decide to purchase them, and the manufacturer covers you with a 100% satisfaction guarantee. Go out and try a pair (or two) for yourself! Pricing varies depending on the options selected for the sunglasses, so visit the company’s website for more information.
