Winter Battery Safety

Image
LiPo Battery Basics text on a blue background. Safety First written below.

Safely storing your batteries is extremely important in the winter months. AMA has lots of tips to ensure that you feel confident approaching the task in the safest manner possible! For some of these helpful tips, read a 2016 "Electrics" column by Greg Gimlick at www.ModelAviation.com/storage-time-coming, or watch an AMA "LiPo Battery Basics" video at https://youtu.be/_dTgcZSfCAs?si=FGm52RcPUGqzBWUn.

Comments:

@SubToTripleThreatRC: "If you use an ammo box to store and/or transport your lipos (which is a great idea) make sure to either remove the seal on the lid or drill a couple of holes in the side end of the ammo box to allow the expanding gas to escape in a ‘controlled’ manner (in the event of a lipo burst)."

Blueprint of a model aircraft with detailed parts and measurements.

Paul Kohlmann has expertly detailed the construction process of his Infield Engineering P-40C throughout the last two issues of Model Aviation. The third part of this build series can be found in this issue on page 42.

Paul’s P-40C has a 60-inch wingspan, a 50.4-inch length, a 591-sq. in. wing area, and a flying weight of 79 ounces. To build this aircraft, access free plans at www.modelaviation.com/content/build-curtiss-p-40. These plans are available in four sheets worth of either tiled forms or full PDFs.
