One of the efforts to help AMA’s membership drive is to increase our social media presence. I want to welcome Alan Goodman to the AMA District IV staff. Alan has volunteered to help our social media administrator, Doug LeRoy. Alan is the Secretary for Prince Georges RC Club in Maryland and has been associated with model aviation in one form or another throughout his entire life.
We are updating and adding more content and interaction by bringing you news about events, your accomplishments, and your flying machines, as well as special interest stories about our hobby. Please visit www.facebook.com/amadistrictIV, join the group, spread the word, and enjoy.
Associate Vice President Rick Cawley tells us about a magnificent event that he attended.
The Kinston Aero-Modelers (KAM) Big Bird/Warbird event is a good one to attend, and this one was no exception. We had all sorts of aircraft enjoying our weather here in the eastern part of North Carolina. The KAM club always enjoys good participation from clubs here in District IV, and nearly 50 pilots came by to support the gathering and have a fun time. This club has grown in the past year or two because two of their neighboring clubs closed when they lost their fields, but the members were to continue enjoying the hobby with KAM.
This fly-in was to also remember an active club member who passed away just a week earlier. Bruce Crowe enjoyed flying his Giant Telemaster for the candy drop each year. He was always around to help at the field in any way he could to make it a better place to enjoy our hobby. On this day, Bruce’s` Giant Telemaster was flown by his friend, Mike Hood, to carry on this candy-dropping tradition and, as in past events, it was enjoyed by all.

There was some great flying during the day, and you should have seen youngster Antonio Aviles masterfully flying his Viper jet. The raffle of the day is always a good way to help the club raise money, and manufacturers generously donated prizes to the club. The DA-70 engine raffle was won by Ken Wade, and Jay Woodring won the Seagull RV-8, that was donated by Legend Hobby. Congratulations, guys, for winning the raffle and to all of the other prize winners of raffles held throughout the day.
The KAM event has been a favorite of mine, and you should certainly plan to attend this year’s event. Visit KAM’s website at www.facebook.com/KinstonAeroModelers.
Go fly and have fun safely.
